SYNOPSIS
Gongjin Elementary School in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, was shut down due to the dramatic decrease of the number of students. At the end of 2013, the Education Office of Seoul started a project to establish a special-education school, Seojin School, tentatively. But even after about 5 years, its construction hasn’t started yet. Could Seojin School open with all the obstacles?
DIRECTING INTENTION
My daughter is going to enter elementary school next year. Though I’m still unskillful and green father, at least now I know that all of children are as precious as my kid. In this sense, I hope that the world our children will live in would be a better than the world I lived in. We should not pass down a shameful legacy.
The controversy over the establishment of a special school was complicated by growing pains of Korean society. Discrimination and exclusion, which had worked persistently to drive out the poor, have shown a harsh intention towards disability again. These and other reasons have made it difficult for us to coexist with those who are different from ourselves. So I wanted to contemplate the meaning of living together again.
