DIRECTING INTENTION
The Gaeseong Industrial Complex is a special administrative industrial region of Gaeseong city, North Hwanghae province in North Korea. South Korea and North Korea’s cooperation for the economy at the Gaeseong complex brought each other’s trust and belief. The complex has become a space for peace. The sudden closure of the zone and the withdrawal of companies had not only been a low point in inter-Korean relations but also a great disappointment for entrepreneurs and workers on both sides and the people in the North.
This work of art was made together with the gay choir G_Voice and Lee Hyang, an accordean player who is a North Korea defector. It visualises a frustrating reality to the entrepreneurs of Gaeseong Industrial Zone and their hope to reopen its business.
This work is also ‘Site-specific video work’ which was produced as 2channels video with 12ch sound fitting the work to an exhibition space called Culture Station Seoul 284. It is specially re-edited to a single channel video for this screening.
