SYNOPSIS
This film has a form of dance films. It is not because most of the images of the film show dancing, but because the film seeks for the relationship between movements. The images recorded by video cameras were transformed to films, and the films became my material for this film. I tried to read the possibility of movement from stationary motions in each frame with stationary pictures. Then I connected and related them with movement when finding new relationship. This film is a dance film in that it tries to make images of the implicit meanings of symbolic and abstract movements in dancing and the emotions and memories of dancers.
DIRECTING INTENTION
The word, ‘squash’ means to ‘press, crush with such force and repress’ in dictionary. Squash blossoms also mean pumpkin flowers.
In this film, my personal experiences (events) are shown with two main point-of-views; the two make repetitive conflicts constantly. As a creative dance film, this also explains the implicit meaning of the emotions of the dancer or the choreographer at the moment of complexity. My sister has prepared for the college entrance exam; my family has been waiting for the unforeseeable exam result for 3 years; I have been observing them closely. Though this situation is not explicitly shown in the film, I accepted the memories and emotions about the college entrance exam and put my self-reflection into this film; as I came to know about the aspects of Korean college entrance exam for students majoring in dance.
