DIRECTING INTENTION

For an international student, home and relationships are temporary spaces, always something one may have to leave. Knock Back grows out of this experience: its square aspect ratio reveals the limits of the space the character is allowed to occupy, and its black-and-white image reveals the limits of the world the character faces. The private language Yoonsuk and her roommate built through knitting disappears as their relationship comes apart. The film follows Yoonsuk, having lost that language, as she reaches out to others again and begins to build a new language.
