SYNOPSIS
DIRECTING INTENTION

SYNOPSIS
In 2000, "Mungchi" became a global sensation as the star of the hit children’s program Mungchi and Friends. However, for reasons unknown, the actor behind the character has long refused to remove the mascot suit. As rumors swirl regarding their true identity, Mungchi finally takes off the suit. From HONG Seunggi, whose works such as Chaehwa and Monstro Obscura have given voice to beings that cannot be named in a single language, comes another such story, drawn from memories of and affection for CRT televisions and the Teletubbies.
DIRECTING INTENTION
People talk too much. Mungchi is Mungchi—no more, no less. By refusing to shed the suit, Mungchi blurs the lines between female and male, reality and fiction, actor and character, and human and non-human, remaining a presence that defies any categorization. Perhaps in the future, adorable icons like Pororo, Labubu, Teletubbies, and Mungchi will dissolve all such boundaries entirely, eventually coming to rule the world.
