SYNOPSIS
1970년대, 새마을운동이 한창인 지리산 자락의 마을. 사람들이 마을 입구의 장승을 뽑아내자, 깊은 산에서 밤안개가 흘러나와 마을로 스며든다. 무녀 되기를 거부하던 열다섯 솔은 마을 사람들이 지른 불에 할머니를 잃고, 잿더미에서 타지 않은 칠금령을 집어 든다. 마을로 내려온 솔의 눈에는 사람들의 목에 걸린 가느다란 실이 보인다. 솔은 그 실을 손에 모아 쥐고, 실이 향한 산으로 오른다.

SYNOPSIS
In the 1970s, at the height of the Saemaul Movement, a village below Jirisan tears out the wooden guardian post at its entrance — and from deep in the mountains, night fog seeps down into the village. Sol, fifteen, has refused her calling as a shaman; when the villagers burn her grandmother's shrine, she loses her and finds the bell-cluster unburned in the ashes. Back in the village, she can see the thin threads tied around every throat. She gathers them in her hand and follows them up the mountain.

The Saemaul Movement of the 1970s. A rural village where the slogan “Let’s live well” has turned into pressure. Standing before the evaluation sheet, afraid of falling behind the neighboring villages, the villagers begin to count the weakest among them as a cost.
“Didn’t you hear? The next village rounded up every one of their shaman women themselves and sent them off to the welfare center. That’s how they got rated a self-reliant village.”
This film is a period piece set in the 1970s, and it is also a story of the present — of people gripped by fear who cannot stop the hatred they turn on one another."
