특징
- 경쟁 독립영화제
한 해 동안 만들어진 다양한 독립영화들을 아우르고 재조명하는 국내 경쟁 독립영화제이다.
극, 실험, 다큐멘터리, 애니메이션 등 다양한 독립영화를 주제, 형식, 장르에 구분 없이 공모하여 시상한다. 새로운 독립영화를 발굴할 뿐 아니라 별도의 초청 섹션을 통해 독립영화의 다양한 경향을 소개하며 한 해의 독립영화를 결산하고자 한다.
- 교류와 소통, 축제의 영화제
동시대 독립영화인들이 한자리에서 모임으로써 독립영화의 시대정신과 비전을 찾고자 한다. 감독, 배우, 스태프 등 다양한 영역에서 활동하는 영화인과 독립영화를 사랑하는 관객들의 참여를 이끌어 내고 있다.
- 미래지향적 영화제
기성 영화의 대안이 될 새로운 독립영화를 적극적으로 발굴하는 영화제이다. 독립영화의 성장과 발전에 크게 기여하며 한국 영화 안에서 독립영화의 위상을 확고히 하고 있다. 주류 영화와 차별화된 비전을 통해 영화의 새로운 가능성에 도전하고 있다.
- 영화제 이후를 고민하는 영화제
영화제 외에도 SIFF Plus라는 타이틀로 일상사업을 펼치며 독립영화 저변을 확대하고 있다. 국내 순회상영회 인디피크닉, 해외쇼케이스, 블루레이/DVD 제작, 도서발행, 독립영화 제작지원사업, 배우프로젝트 등의 활동으로 다양한 관객과 만남을 이어가고 있다.
- 해외 독립영화 초청 및 국제 교류
세계적으로 주목받고 있는 해외 독립영화를 소개함으로써, 독립영화 창작자에게 새로운 영감을 불어 넣고 있다. 해외 작품의 상영을 넘어 워크샵, 마스터클래스 등 한국 독립영화의 해외 진출과 네트워킹을 위한 다각적인 사업을 펼치고 있다.

- A Competitive Independent Film Festival
A domestic competitive festival that gathers and re-examines the independent films made over the past year.
Fiction, experimental, documentary, animation — independent films of every subject, form and genre are eligible for entry and awards. Beyond discovering new work, separate invitational sections introduce the many currents of independent film and take stock of the year.
- A Festival of Exchange and Celebration
By bringing today's independent filmmakers together in one place, the festival looks for the spirit and vision of its time. It draws in directors, actors and crew working across every field, along with audiences who love independent film.

Beyond the festival itself, SIFF Plus runs year-round programs that widen the ground for independent film: the Indie Picnic touring screenings, overseas showcases, Blu-ray/DVD releases, publishing, production support and the Actors Project all keep the festival in contact with a wide range of audiences.
