SYNOPSIS

The film traces the trajectory of cinema by uncovering the particular intersections shared by the historical contexts of anti-communist art during the Park Chung-hee regime. Notably, the censorship and intervention on anti-communist film images by the Korean Central Intelligence Agency symbolically reveals the presence of power and ideology that exists between image and reality. The images reproduced by power in the name of ideology mirror reality but paradoxically also intervene in it. The massacre scenes, which frequently appear as clichés in anti-communist films, impact the reality in which the families of massacre victims, long forgotten, are still living.
The film prompts us to reflect on the creators of images. What role do creators play between power and ideology? Creators may collaborate with power to produce images that serve the ideology power desires, or sometimes they may passively record images they witness outside of power's influence. However, even these seemingly detached images are influenced by the larger hierarchy of power.

DIRECTING INTENTION

is a film about images and representation. The film asks: What can an image capture? Can an image truly represent reality? What exists between the image and reality? The film is a trace of efforts made to get closer to the answers.
