SYNOPSIS
현재 미아리고개를 넘는 길은 여느 도로와 다를 바가 없어 보이고 고개 너머 길음역 일대에는 고가 아파트가 들어서 있다. 얼마 남지 않은 ‘미아리’로 불리는 장소들 중 하나인 성매매 집결지 ‘미아리 텍사스’의 재개발이 몇 년 전 확정되었다. 2025년, 미아리 텍사스의 건물들은 대부분 비어 있고 부서져 있다.
DIRECTING INTENTION
미아리는 많은 사람들의 머릿속에 남아 있는 이름으로 수백 년간 약자의, 경계의 공간이었다. 이제는 행정상으로 존재하지 않는 지명이나 미아리고개, 미아리 텍사스의 이름으로 사람들의 기억 속에 남아 있다. 이처럼 어떠한 이름들은 경계, 슬픔, 죽음을 내재하고 있기 때문에 그것들이 희미해지기 전 붙잡아 기록하고자 한다.

SYNOPSIS
Today, the road over Miari Hill (Miari gogae) looks no different from any other street, while the area beyond it, around Gireum Station, is lined with high-rise apartment complexes. Among the few places that still bear the name "Miari" is Miari Texas, a former red-light district whose redevelopment was approved several years ago. In 2025, most of its buildings stand abandoned, damaged, and partially demolished.
DIRECTING INTENTION
For centuries, Miari has existed in people's memories as a place associated with society's marginalized communities—a space of boundaries and exclusion. Although the name no longer exists as an official administrative district, it survives through places such as Miari Hill (Miari gogae) and Miari Texas. Certain names carry within them histories of division, sorrow, and death. Before those memories fade into obscurity, this film seeks to preserve them by recording the landscapes in which they remain.
