SYNOPSIS
최근의 어느 날, 태국에서 미얀마 불법 이주노동자들에 대한 전국적인 탄압이 있었다. 이 사건은 한 마을의 미얀마 공동체에 심각한 영향을 미쳤다. 이들은 보다 나은 삶을 찾기 위해 위험을 무릅쓰고 태국 국경을 건너온 이들이었다. 그들 중 일부는 태국사람들과 친밀한 관계를 유지하고 있었다. 이것이 <친애하는 당신>의 배경이다.
영화 속 마을은 겉보기에는 평화롭고 단조로워 보이지만, 감정적 충돌과 소통의 어려움을 숨기고 있으며, 주인공들 사이의 심리적 긴장을 만들어낸다. 주인공은 미얀마 망명자로, 그는 이 국경마을의 두 명의 태국여성과 운명적으로 얽혀있다. 영화는 별 다를 것 없는 나른한 오후의 실제적인 문제들을 세밀하게 잡아낸다. 인물들은 삶의 특별한 목표를 가지고 있지 않다. 불합리한 국가의 정치적 체계 속에서, 그들은 무심하게 ‘친애하는’ 존재로 남기를 택한다.

최근 많은 미얀마인들은 더 나은 삶을 위해 태국으로 와 불법이주노동자로 살아가고 있다. 그들은 당국의 감시를 피해 살아가면서 태국인들과 어떤 방식으로든 관계를 맺고 있다. 이러한 정치적 배경 아래에서 아핏차퐁 위라세타쿤은 한 미얀마 남성과 두 명의 태국 여성에 대한 낯선 이야기를 펼쳐 보인다. 알 수 없는 피부병에 걸린 미얀마 남성 민. 그의 애인인 룽과 중년 여성 온은 그를 치료하기 위해 병원을 찾는다. 건조하고 삭막한 도시에서 민은 자신이 불법체류자라는 사실을 숨기기 위해 벙어리 행세를 한다. 그러나 민과 룽, 그리고 온이 도시를 벗어나 정글로 들어가면서 영화는 전혀 다른 공기를 내뿜는다. 정글이라는 풍경은 새로운 등장인물이 되어, 나무 열매를 따먹고, 사랑을 나누는 주인공들과 공존한다. 영화는 2시간이라는 영화적 시간 안에서 변화하는 인물들의 관계를 내밀하게 관찰하며, ‘낯선 시간’의 세계를 구축한다.

SYNOPSIS
In recent years, there has been a nationwide crackdown on illegal Burmese immigrants in Thailand. This has deeply affected the Burmese community in the country, many of whom had crossed the border to find a better life by seeking employment in the Thai labor market. Some have also developed close relationships with Thai people. This is the political background of Blissfully Yours. Even though the town in this film seems peaceful on the surface, the boredom, hidden emotional conflicts, and communication differences, produce psychological tensions between the protagonists of the story. The main character is a Burmese refugee whose fate has linked him to the lives of two Thai women in this border town. The film details their mundane activities on a typical lazy afternoon. The characters do not have a meaningful goal in life. Under two flawed political systems, they choose to remain ignorantly blissful.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul (born July 16, 1970 in Bangkok, Thailand) is a Thai independent film director, screenwriter and film producer. His feature films include Tropical Malady, which won a jury prize at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, Blissfully Yours, which won the top prize in the Un Certain Regard program at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival, and Syndromes and a Century, which premiered at the 63rd Venice Film Festival and was the first Thai film to be entered in competition there.
