SYNOPSIS
프레시안의 4대강 사진기획의 일환으로 10명의 사진가가 강으로 떠났다. 4대강 사업으로 신음하는 강과 그 위의 생명들에게 귀를 기울이기 위해서였다. 강의 상태는 생각했던 것보다 훨씬 심각했다. 겉모습만이 아니다. 강의 공사를 둘러싸고 많은 의견들이 가시를 세우고 대립했고 갈등은 깊었다. 사진가들은 강의 풍경을 보여주는 것이 전부가 아니라는 점을 깨달았다.
카메라에 담기 어려운 다른 이야기들을 찾기 위해 사진가들은 다시 강으로 나가 강의 표면 뒤에 있는 그 무엇을 찾기 시작했다. 하나의 강에서 많은 이야기들이 흘러나왔다.
이 이야기는 일부에 불과하다. 왜냐하면 그 강의 톱니를 자르는 그 ‘직선’은 강가에만 있는 것이 아니기 때문이다. 이 영화는 어떤 이의 ‘독선’에 대한 오랜 기록의 시작이다.
DIRECTING INTENTION
굽은 강 가에는 붉은 깃발이 일렬로 꽂혀 있었다. 강 위로 누군가의 직선이 반듯하게 그어지는 광경을 두 눈으로 바라보는 일은 감당하기 어려웠다. 땅으로 고개를 떨군 농군의 얼굴을 보는 순간도 그랬다. 말라가는 쑥부쟁이와 뽑혀나가는 미나리꽝 위에도 그 직선은 아주 반듯하게 그어져 있었다.
묻고 싶었다. 우리 모두의 ‘강’이 누군가의 머릿속에서 제멋대로 재단되는 그 직선의 세상을 생각해 본 적이 있느냐고. 누구에게도 물어보지 않은, 돌이킬 수 없는 대 역사 앞에서 강가에서 바람에 떨고 있는 풀 한포기에게 우리는 무엇을 설명해야 할 것인지.......

SYNOPSIS
For the photography project of the Internet newspaper, Pressian, 10 photographers went to the river under the Four-River Development Project. They went there to listen to the voice of lives in the river and by the riverside that are groaning under the Four-River Development Project. The situations of the river were more serious than they expected. That was not just its appearance. Many were in confrontation with each other about the construction of the river, and their conflicts became serious. The photographers realized that they should do more than just showing the landscapes of the river.
In order to find different stories which are difficult to contain in their cameras, they went out to the river again to find something behind the river. There were many stories behind the river.
This story is just part of the stories. It is because the ‘straight line’ to cut the river is not only by the riverside. This film is a beginning of a long record about self-righteousness of SOMEONE.
DIRECTING INTENTION
At the curved riverside, red flags were stuck to the mud in a row. It was beyond my practice to see with my own eyes someone drawing a straight line on the river. So it was when I saw the eyes of a peasant who dropped his face. There was a straight line drawn on drying wormwood and pulled water parsleys.
I wanted to ask if you have ever thought that our ‘rivers’ flow in a straight line as if someone cut with a ruler. It is the question that we have asked nobody. The construction is irrevocable. What can we say to the grass shivering with wind on the riverside?
