SYNOPSIS
남편의 죽음 이후 영분은 의붓아들 용진에게 여행을 다녀오겠다고 한다. 하지만 사실은 고향인 태백으로 돌아가 취업할 계획이다. 영분은 새롭게 인생을 시작하고 싶은 것이다. 운 좋게도 바로 직장을 얻은 그녀는, 그날 밤 옛 친구가 하던 미용실을 찾아간다. 그러나 친구는 이미 도시를 떠났고, 편지 한통만 남아있을 뿐이다. 그 편지에는 영분이 어릴 적 버리고 간 딸, 한희가 엄마를 찾고 있다는 내용이 적혀있다.
DIRECTING INTENTION
저는 <들꽃> <스틸플라워> <재꽃> 까지 세 편의 영화를 마무리하고 나서 무엇을 할지 몰라 우울한 시간을 보냈습니다. 그런 저를 걱정하신 어머니가 당신 세대의 이야기를 해보면 어떠냐는 말씀을 주셨습니다. 그때는 무엇이 될지는 알 수 없었지만, 그저 태백으로 떠나 밤거리를 걸었습니다. 어두운 골목 빈 벽마다, 전단지를 붙이고 있는 한 사람의 모습이 떠올랐고, 다가가본 그 얼굴은 너무나도 환하였습니다. 그 마음을 잡고 <바람의 언덕>을 시작했습니다.

SYNOPSIS
After the death of her husband, Youngboon tells her stepson, Yongjin, of her plans for a short trip. However, she has other plans in her mind, mainly to go back to her hometown, Taebaek, to get a job. She hopes to start a new life there. Fortunately, she succeeds in getting a job as a cleaning lady in a small motel. On that night, she sets out to a beauty shop run by an old friend. On arrival, she finds that the friend had left the city. Only a letter is left, of which reads that Hanhee is looking for her mother, Youngboon.
DIRECTING INTENTION
After having completed the three films, <Wild Flowers>, <Steel Flower>, <Ash Flower>, I had been lost not knowing what to do next. Concerned about my status, my mother suggested making a film about her generation. Then I did not know what will become of the film, but I set out for the country side, Taebaek anyway. On the first day of arrival, I went for a walk in the night. Every corner of the street was so dark and lonely. There I started to imagine an old woman, putting up leaflets on the empty walls. Having approached closer, the face seemed to be beaming. Holding onto such recollections, that’s how I started <The Hill of Wind>.
