SYNOPSIS
Professor Song, staying in Germany, was suspected of espionage and banned from Korea. Now he’s expecting to visit Korean after 33 years. ‘The Border City’, by which Berlin was called during the period of partition, could also be a name for Seoul now that the city is haunted by the ‘red complex,’ and refuses Prof. Song to come back to his homeland.
DIRECTING INTENTION
Professor Song, Doo-yul tried to come back to Korea in October, 2002 again. ""I will come back this time even though I will go back at the airport."" His resolution was firm since he lives away from home for 35 years as being absent from his will. According to the response of the authority, however, the inviting institution cancelled the invitation. It is the first time to cancel the invitation, and it is hard to find out how Professor Song handled with it. As I become accustomed to a ‘compromise’ since I get older, I fell painful with this event for a while; I guess I still have a hope. Thinking myself the topic of ‘lacking courage and resolution’ that he raised to the force of democracy, I hope this film will become a little consolation for many people who cannot come back to their hometown yet.
