TIME TABLE
SYNOPSIS
The protagonist, Taro, is a self-proclaimed film director who makes independent films. Despite being nearly 30 years old, he is financially supported by the woman he lives with. One day, his film is selected at an independent film competition and he travels to Oita Prefecture. Although he goes to the film festival in high spirits, at the screening, he is disheartened when the woman organizing the festival harshly criticizes his film. Taro doesn’t attend the festival party and wanders off to a neighboring town the next day. There, he is approached by a woman named Miki, who had seen Taro’s movie, and the two of them decide to go on a short two-day trip together. During the trip, Taro reveals to Miki that he lacks confidence in his filmmaking abilities. Although her true identity is unclear, Taro is somehow able to be himself around Miki, who has an open personality. He also develops a faint crush on Miki, but this love is never consummated. Taro returns to Tokyo alone, where his girlfriend is waiting for him.
DIRECTING INTENTION
This film depicts the struggles of a film director in a comedic way. Although the protagonist is a young film director with little experience, he is like a projection of myself at 52 years old. While shooting a film, I sometimes wonder what to do, don’t know if what I’m filming is interesting, feel like I don’t really have a good theme, or lack confidence in my script. In this film, I depicted my own anguish of starting a shoot with a feeling of anxiety and having it continue throughout the whole filming process by superimposing it on his journey, the purpose of which is unknown.
