SYNOPSIS
In the bloom of spring, the Gangjeong stream, which is famous for the 1st class cleanest spring water, was the lifeblood for creatures in danger of going extinct and flowers. But, suddenly, excavators appeared on the lava rocks named Gureombi to construct a new naval base in Gangjeong village. One summer day with the typhoon Muifa, “the little war” between residents and police force was started. During the fierce war, a chilly wind of autumn is blowing to the Gangjeong seashore. Blowing a glacial winter wind from North, Gureombi has become a restricted area and cannot to be entered without permission. Although the spring has come back, the wind is plaintively blowing around Gureombi rock.
DIRECTING INTENTION
Struggle against a new naval base in Gangjeong has been proceeded since 2007. A conflict between arguments for and against in the village is so severe that someone said it is even worse than tragic Jeju Massacre (known as 4.3 in Korean). Although over 100 people were slaughtered at that time, residents cooperated and have a strong sense of solidarity against the external enemy at least. Due to this huge scheme backed by in the name of national security and economic benefit, over 600 people were arrested. This documentary shows this desperate struggle of Jeju Island residents and follows its long trace.
