SYNOPSIS
Endless flows of people getting on and off the subway trains all throughout the city. When people transit through under ground, heading for their lives on ground, there are those who move the orderly space of “underground.” Under the troubled world of today, we approach them to see how life is underground.
DIRECTING INTENTION
I am sort of a railway maniac. I liked the lined out beauty of the underground unlike the sprawling ground, and the elegance of the subway-line map. Moreover, I felt a certain kind of excitement when I thought of the fact that the subway was running into the darkness, under ground, even under a river. The interest I had for subways as a “railway maniac”, spread towards the people who made this “underground” work, in a way comparable to a musician playing an instrument with a metronome. As of today, as there’s no longer the ticketing personnel to guard us through the maze, the automated trains are replacing the engine drivers, and the city of Busan is more flourishing than ever, I wanted to hold their hands and ask, “How is your life underground?”
