SYNOPSIS
Together from sunset to sunrise, a struggling Korean-Japanese screenwriter shares a brief encounter with a young Korean woman on an overnight ferry from Seoul to Jeju Island, learning a little bit about who they are, and who they are not.
DIRECTING INTENTION
This film is about people detached from their origin. I myself am a descent generation of Korean immigrants and I started working on this topic inspired my grandmother’s story how she managed to come to japan. Her story inspired me very strong image.
The ship "Ohamana" used to travel between Seoul and Jeju 3 times a week. To me, Jeju Island means my grand mother's generation and the past. Seoul means my generation and contemporary. Therefore the route of Ohamana is tracing my personal history.
(This film was shot from March 30th to April 9th, 2014)
