Episode 2.Record, Documentary Fiction Record
There is a photographer who records the image of a young couple in his picture. Documentary: there is a documentarist who follows them, both the couple and the photographer, with her camcorder. The documentarist usually hides her being behind her objects in order to capture their frank behavior, while the photographer tries to control the couple demanding that they should smile whenever he wants. Fiction: however, there is the documentarist who controls all too, ordering them to act naturally and frankly.

Documentary has neither scenario nor sets. It only needs the camcorders watch. But is it possible for director not to get involve in his documentary work? She asks for something to her objects who already know what she intends them to do. Perhaps does she pretend not to see it and even use it? the one purpose of the president Park Junghee, fiction, and the wedding photographer is to control something visible. But as for documentary? It is what controls something invisible? More than that, I think. It can control all and even edit all again and again.

The omnibus project The Empire, one feature film, consists of 7 episodes which are created each by 7 independent film makers, who differ from one another in how they speak, but share one issue-what is the empire? In the film, The Empire, they speak of globalization in Neo-Liberalism, photography for wedding, circulation of power, family, school, war, migrant workers, Missile Defense System, and even nuclear to depict how violence and oppression are produced by the power that still works simultaneously in both daily life and the whole world. The Empire is everywhere. It is not far away from here but even in my body. And it is delicately entangled in our life and sometimes completely invisible. In short, it is desultory, but unique."
