DIRECTING INTENTION
Itaewon, once known as a red-light district surrounding the U.S. military base in Korea, has recently been viewed as a hot, exotic area that symbolizes multinational restaurants and cultures in the media. While the town has gone through drastic changes, how do the women who have lived there for a long time see it?
The film Itaewon examines how Itaewon has changed over the years by following the lives and memories of three women who have been living there since the era when the town was run by dollars from the U.S. Army. The film also views how the women are perceived and alienated in the change of the town.
