SYNOPSIS
Beom-gu, a middle-aged engineer, somehow lost his sense of smell and suddenly gets laid off. His wife Mi-young sells Staff cards in a dog-eat-dog environment. Their daughter Han-na applied for college -again-, but is waitlisted. Staying home all day, Beom-gu meets a unique character while settling some noise issues. Mi-young even risks doing illegal sales but her situation only gets worse.
DIRECTING INTENTION
Koreans face intense competition in every corner of their everyday life. Among the OECD member nations, Korea ranks first in the suicide rate, scores the lowest in the happiness index, and puts its children through the highest level of academic pressure. Cutthroat competition has become the norm, and the newly coined expression, 'Hell Joseon (old name of Korea)' is used to lament the dreary condition of the society.
This film is an attempt to offer a meaningful consolation to those living here and now with its funny yet sad depiction of an ordinary Korean family going through a desolate reality. How are you going to face your inner demons?
