SYNOPSIS
You hear so many horrible accidents and crimes from TV and newspapers. But they don't surprise you any more. You may think they are just a part of your daily life. Since around 2000 in Korea, there have been tons of strange murders. There are no killers and no suspects, but people are murdered every day. Someone calls them, "social murders". However, these everyday terrible crimes do not shock anybody. They are just filling a small corner of a newspaper. No alarms and no surprises. No efforts to stop them. What has thrown you into such a dead apathy?
DIRECTING INTENTION
Soap dramas are still attracting many people all over the world. It means, old orders are so strong and sturdy that they are moving the world even after they seem to have disappeared. "Bankruptcy" is one of subjects of such soap dramas, which has given a deep impact on Korean society for last decade. In this movie, People cry and moan from unbearable pain. It also gives a hint on some elements which has made up Korean society for last 10 years such as the capitalism called "Neo-liberalism" and the generation slowly sinking without revolutionary break-up. However, this movie does not focus on an analysis of a social problem, nor a solution. Rather it takes a distance from the problem itself, so that finally the audiences can find that people's pain is not from the government's bad policies. It lies deep in the system itself that people are struggling against every day.
