DIRECTING INTENTION

Ray's Winter Break is the third feature film collaboration between myself and cinematographer, Lee Sung-eun. We are coworkers who debuted together, having made our respective first features, starting with Wild Flowers in 2014. For the past ten years, we have continued to make films, though often in separate places. There were many successes, but the happy times were brief, and the frustrating times were long. Somewhere along the way, we lost our courage. We were exhausted. All that remained were our friends. So, with a camera, a zoom lens, a rented tripod, a tape recorder, and actress Jung Joo-eun, we headed to Japan. There, we made a movie with our friends - a journey filled with the drowsy, warm moments of an unplanned trip. On the final shoot, standing by the winter sea in a foreign country, we found our courage again. That was our last winter break.
