SYNOPSIS
It is the time of open agricultural administration. Because of the influx of imported agriculturalproducts and the policy to belittle agriculture, the life of farmers who have kept this land for a long time gets harder with increasing liabilities and crisis day by day. To overcome this crisis of agriculture in reality, farmers who have worked for a long time established voluntary famers’ association. This film pictures the life of main individual personnel in the Farmers’ Association in Sacheon, Gyeongnam province for a year after the Ko-US FTA in 2007; Kim Yoon-jin who used to join students’ movements is now an activist for farmers’ movements Choi Wang-eui is the president of the Famers’ AssociationLee Chang-eun holds the position of the head of a village by the sea. I’d like to think over what is the meaning of living as farmers today through their constant struggles against the reality that drives them out to crisis.
DIRECTING INTENTION
As I mostly shot short newsreels during the Ko-US FTA struggles, I wanted to take the stories of the actual victims into camera rather than short newsreels. I tried to keep up my close coverage of the case of small farmers in Sa-cheon, Gyeongsang-nam province. In order to come deeply closer to their life, I followed the farming schedules, lifestyles and struggles of main figures with time.
