SYNOPSIS

From the time of Korea's liberation from Japan until a ceasefire was called to the Korean War in 1953, more than 1,000,000 civilians were sacrificed. It became a back and forth slaughter between the left and the right, but the slaughter of many victims also came at the hands of South Korean armed forces, right-wing groups, and bombing by US troops. In the middle of it all, as a level of preventative measure during the early stages of the Korean War, were the detained and massacred National Guidance Alliance members. Of the estimated 230,000-450,000 members across the country, the majority were farmers, and were people with no interest in political ideology. For no other reason than joining a government-made enlightenment group, these people, without even receiving a trial, were falsely victimized. All because of national ideological standards that had nothing directly to do with the Korean War.

DIRECTING INTENTION

The massacre of National Guidance Alliance members by past regimes has become forgotten history. One cannot even find a record of this tragic past in the national curriculum. Even now with the passing of many years, word is still being passed down of the National Guidance Alliance victims who walked, unaware, down the road of their deaths. But now memories are fading and those who survived and witnessed the events at the massacre site are passing away. Their story is vanishing into the depths of history.
The plans for this movie began with this sense of crisis. I should have given up 4 years ago when I couldn't settle the production costs that arose while working on the production. Now I realize that there is no more time remaining. If I don't finish now then perhaps an accurate recording of the victims can never be done.
This movie intends to get to the bottom of events surrounding the National Guidance Alliance massacre, and at the same time, break away from ideological disputes so that the reality of the tragedy, which went against all senses of human dignity, can be recorded. In this way I will share modern and contemporary history with the young generations of today, and through our innate human claims to not war and ideology, but to human rights, and our agenda of democracy, draw nearer to the audience.
