SYNOPSIS

Built in the 1980s, Jugong Apartment in Bongmyeong-dong is a first-generation apartment in Cheongju. Although the district around it was designated as a maintenance area in 2008, the construction got started in 2019 a long time after the residents had a difficult time to select a constructor. The residents who had waited in the hope of thwarting the redevelopment plan until the end, start moving out one by one, and the gardens and trees they have cultivated get cut off. And those who want to remember the place that will soon disappear begin to visit Bongmyeong Jugong Apartment.

DIRECTING INTENTION

Unlike other apartment complexes, the Bongmyeong Jugong Apartment is a place where many low-rise one or two-story apartment buildings occupy a large area, creating an unusual landscape. The landscaping trees taller than the buildings and the various kinds of flowers and fruit trees planted by the residents, and the communal life of communicating with neighbors without fences were closer to a society of a small village than that of an usual apartment complex. The people who would have to leave their old homes try to calm, yet the camera loosely captures their calmness together with the end of the flowers and thick trees.
