SYNOPSIS

On 20th January 2009, tenants of Yongsan whose houses had been evicted by force died in flame in the middle of the city. The flame reminds me the 1991's one which I witnessed. I was a high school student when I saw a collage student set a fire on him. That time people dubbed the politics as 'politics of burn oneself to death'. At June 1987 Movement, TV and newspapers reported the death of Hanyol, who was my neighbor. Deaths and people I have met since Gwangju Democratic Movement. This documentary is a deathed portrait of Korea.

DIRECTING INTENTION

Where are the people who once occupied streets of Seoul in 1980, 1987, 1991 and 2008? History seems circulate without further progress, and people living in 2010 don't have willingness to fight for spiritual or social progress anymore. What is to blame for it? This film is a story about director's personal memory which aims to give an answer to above questions. And it is also a story about memories and history of this society. In the film the memorable moments such as 1980 Gwangju Democratic Movement, June 1987 Movement, and Yongsan Tragedy under MB administration come into personal memory. Why don't we-or them fight against political and capital authorities anymore? Changing the world is impossible? Or does the 'movement' become meaningless? I pick up a camera for answering those questions.
