SYNOPSIS

With the ongoing economic depression and low employment of young people, university students, anxious and time-pressured, are racing to make their aspirations come true. The rising popularity of university clubs focusing on business clearly demonstrates this trend. To join one of these distinctly exclusive clubs, students are required to go through a competitive recruiting process including resume screening, and rounds of interviews, rivaling those found in actual companies. The lives of club members are taken over by weekly team projects, while all other personal pursuits with family and friends are pushed aside. The pressure from hectic life makes them ask what it is they are striving for. This documentary looks at the insides of an exclusive club at one of the leading private universities in Korea, another facet of a society where competition rules and winner takes all.

DIRECTING INTENTION

“I run and run, but I feel like I am stuck in place because everyone else is running at least as hard as I am. If I don’t run, I would fall far behind; if I keep running, all I get to do is stay in place.” (From an interviewee)
This is a complaint widely shared by anyone living in a competitive society, Korea. With all this competition, fatigue sets in and dreams seem out of reach. Why are we running? What is it that makes us go on? And where am I running to now?
