RED were the supporters of the football club Anyang LG Cheetahs. The Cheetahs topped the K-league in 2000 but suddenly relocated to Seoul in 2003. Having no team to support, RED had no reason to continue its existence. But rather than accepting defeat, the die-hard members of RED began a fierce, nine-year struggle that finally led to the birth of Anyang’s own football club once again. 'FC Sukhavati' is the story of these football otakus and their home city, of their growth, solidarity and victory.

“What makes life worth living?” we wondered as we looked at a crowd of football fans at a stadium in a run-down industrial city. What makes them so passionate and so fiercely proud? Despite their rough and sometimes terrifying exterior, RED reminded us of first love and the heroic underdog. As supporters suddenly deprived of their team, RED struggled against big business, politicians, and also their sense of defeat and powerlessness. And they won. Some may mock them as good-for-nothings obsessing over a football club, or dismiss them as mere hooligans or otakus. But RED has long stolen our hearts, as we realized that their chant “Sukhavati” embodies the passion and determination that most of us in this day and age have lost. That is what we want to share with the audience.
