There is a 530-year-old ginkgo tree in Dangsan This place is named as Dangsan because there is a shrine on top of a mountain called Dansan. There’s a story about the gingko tree. When Dangsan was flooded in 1920’s as the area was lower, people hung onto the ginkgo tree and survived. I came back to Dangsan, where I lived for 20 years. The colorful lights of the downtown area, which is centered around Dangsan Station and Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station, are still as bright as day. But the thundering noises and the sound of something crumbling break the scenery of Dangsan. Dangsan has been changed a lot.

What do most people feel about their hometown? Do they feel longing or afraid? 'Dangsan' is a city where I was born and grew up for 20 years. The memory of 'Dangsan' was not a fancy main street or a traffic hub, but the factories and the workers that were collapsed by large skyscrapers which were next to them and they looked like a shabby and eccentric scenery. Ever since I left my hometown for five years, I felt loss of 'Dangsan' deeply. When I came back to 'Dangsan', deleted memories which were greatly anxiety popped up in my head. It is not clear whether it was because of the family trouble which was sparked by Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, or the anxiety that I passed through the streets where were surrounding by unknown places. But now, factories and workers were already gone or disappearing. Where are those who are not recorded and where were they from and where were they disappeared? I want to look into anxious history of unknown places and to show how it meets one's life and the unconsciousness. I records vanishing memories and spaces.
