centers on Mabel Longhetti, a woman very much in love with her workaholic husband: a housewife in charge of her three children, who once they are sent to school finds the loneliness unbearable and has a breakdown. The empty house becomes an emotional prison, sp when her husband fails to return from work one night when she has planned a special celebration, she wanders the streets until she finds a man in a bar. The lack of understanding between husband and wife intensifies and Mabel is finally committed to an institution for six months. If is only then that her husband realizes he is lost without her.
