Buddle (22, suffering from Down syndrome) is concerned. Several years ago, I (49, Buddle's mother) started to make videos for Buddle who has difficulty in going outside because of her uncomfortable legs. 　 As a child who loves to watch videos, she likes to watch herself appearing in her mom's videos. To further my interest in this area, I took a media education program at MediAct, where I met friends with disabilities who showed the power of their solidarity in their struggle for "the mobility right.” As I watch them getting on the bus in their wheelchairs, demanding and struggling for their mobility right while surrounded by the auxiliary police, I start to reflect on myself. I am a parent of a child with another kind of disability, which is the mental retardation of Down syndrome. I reflect whether I have been a good parent for my disabled child in helping her represent her rights, or whether I have been a good fence to protect and defend my child, and how hard I have been trying to broaden the liveable environment for Buddle. What kind of fence am I to Buddle?

For sometime, I've been making videos for my child of the mental retardation, Buddle. I wanted to present to the people, "another audience of my film”, a plain life of my child which may seem a little special to them, and the story of how the parents of the disabled try to broaden the fence to build a liveable world for their children. In addition, I want this film making to be a storytelling process to empty 'myself' deep inside me. And I also hope this film to be a small help to "opening the world through media" and "improving people's perception of the disabled."
