SYNOPSIS
The audience encounters a report in blue pages discussing the death of wild birds caused by collisions with transparent soundproof walls. Two hands appear to turn the pages, cut the paper, move the objects and paint, following the text from the report. While birds fly towards a transparent wall, what is the audience colliding with?
DIRECTING INTENTION
The term “Birdsaver” comes from the name of the indication stickers that are put on sound-proofing glass walls at highways in South Korea to prevent the death of wild birds colliding to the glass. The video starts with text excerpted from a governmental report illustrating the current ecological phenomenon, then gradually transforms into a conceptual inquiry of what is cinema. Starting from the observation that cinema is a complex combination of the physicality and virtuality, or materiality and immateriality, Birdsaver Report Volume 1 intends to dissect the process of perception and appreciation to highlight a perspective of viewing moving image work.
