SYNOPSIS
In 1999, the world is in panic of the Y2K pandemonium, and another edge of chaos occurs to Jihye, a 10-year-old kid in the satellite town. These two disorienting events happen in parallel around her until she catches a glimpse of an end. Soon she heads to the corner store for her biggest breach ever.
DIRECTING INTENTION
Eventually, Y2K turned out to be only a happening, and TV news and shows that made a fuss about Y2K quickly caught on to another story. Meanwhile, in the satellite city, buildings and faces are constantly replaced. The mountains behind my apartment, where we used to walk, vanished into thin air for redevelopment. At a flash, numerous options replaced all the empty spaces and nobody could remember the name of the mountain. The satellite city created illusions of choice that were quickly taken away from us. When today is wiped with another day, what does it mean for us to feel nostalgic? We speak about this generation with a lost imagination of “home” and “past,” while everything is safe and stable. We call this sense of absent identity a tragedy.
