SYNOPSIS
Mirae, a twentysomething programmer, feels hung over one day. To her horror, she finds out that the hangover is actually her pregnancy sickness. Denial, panic and mixed messages from friends, family and the law sends Mirae into a frenzy of ambivalence. But time does not spare her to sort out her mind. Suddenly, Mirae is in the middle of a strange new world.
DIRECTING INTENTION
What does a pregnancy look like in reality? In popular culture, it seems so often either cut out into two stories: the unwanted one and the wanted one. I was struck by how few on-screen female characters seemed to embody the complex dilemmas and often unspoken emotions women encounter during this life-changing event and the lingering absurdity of social expectations around it. I wanted this film to explore the uncharted places a soon-to-be mother is taken to in Korean society, and all the confusion that comes along, because that would be closer to the truth of new motherhood.
