The Olympic Apartment Complex has a unique, radial-shaped structure. It is not only a residential area but also a historical place. How much of the legacy of the 1988 Olympics in Seoul is left in the Olympic Apartments?

In honor of the ’88 Olympic Games in Seoul, the bar code beginning with 880 was adopted into Korea. In the same way the bar code, designed at first in a circular shape, came to have the current vertical shape, Seoul has been being raised vertically higher and higher since 1988. It was not until I saw the placard of the apartment reconstruction hanging all over the village that the neighborhood where I was grown up has become to me “the Olympic Athletes and Reporters’ Apartments.” And then I encountered Seoul in the year of 1988. The Olympics was a festival for a harmonious union of all people, but it was a festival just for them. The Olympic Apartments is a place where the contraries are entwined together.
