SYNOPSIS

Youngwoo was a low-paid scaffolder at a shipbuilding yard, who met his wife at the height of the shipbuilding bubble. But some years later, when the bubble burst and the shipbuilding companies went under, Youngwoo got laid off. He has a baby that is barely one-year-old and a wife that he loves. He wants to live in this city and has no intention of leaving. He goes to look for jobs.

DIRECTING INTENTION

Working in the shipbuilding industry was the main source of income for countless families in Geoje, Korea for many years. But once the shipbuilding industry went into a decline, many people got laid off from their jobs and left the city. This had an adverse ripple effect in the region's economy and led to other key establishments - such restaurants, supermarkets, and realtors - to go out of business. This film tells the story of a blue-collar worker and his family, after the fall of an industry that supported a city from the bottom up. I wanted to show a group of people, who wanted to live in this city but had to leave the city, because they had no means to sustain a living there. Furthermore, I wanted it to resonate with a wider public who are chased out of their hometowns and their countries, because of joblessness and hopelessness.
