Haeryu,' a young man who can't live according to his will due to his sick mother, one day accidentally falls into the water from a bridge. In a precarious situation that makes him think of death, Haeryu is rescued by Gon, a mysterious man who appears with a school of fish. Haeryu sees the 'gills' beneath Gon's ears. After this incident, Haeryu begins searching for the man who has saved her life and happens to meet Gangha, from whom she hears about Gon's past.

I've fallen into the water many times in my life, and each time, I wonder if my body has grown gills to keep me alive.
Even if someone tries to drag our lives down to the end, we survive.
We survive, each on our own, each with our own gills.
To confront the origins of the gills we've acquired,
Re-engrave them, and swim forward.
The loneliness of life that no one else can understand but oneself.
The attitude toward relationships formed through human connections within.
The adventures taken for the sake of those connections that may be bruised and scarred without much else.
Reminds me of how the lives I've been involved with have become gills.
Despite its darkness, hopefully the film conveys the anticipation for life and affection for people.
