SYNOPSIS
Junha(11) is one of the most difficult children at school. His autism causes him to attack his classmates and sometimes even teachers without warning. Consequently, the invisible curtains grow around him. Each outburst further isolates Junha from his community as his teachers and peers struggle daily to find a way to live 'with' Junha. It's never easy. The camera provides an intimate look into this small society, leaving the question: “What is a human entity and how is it connected?” Kepler once commented, "Every planet in the universe has its own melody." <Junha's Planet> is a documentary film that attempts to listen into the melody, echoing deep from and within the tiny universe of its protagonist, Junha.
DIRECTING INTENTION
This project began from the question: "How can people with a sensitive and complex dilemma, coexist?" After three years of work, the question at focus shifted towards, “the nature of human beings and relationships.” In this sense, <Junha's Planet> became an act of self-questioning by the director which lead to better understandings of human beings. The feeling of knowing somebody, is an assumption based on a brief glimpse of the inner side during the time the curtain flutters in the breeze. As for Junha's world, it's even more difficult to catch a sight of his inner-landscape. He is unknown like a faraway planet. Inversely, of course, maybe I am as much an unknown being to Junha. “Each planet has its own unique melody. And when one planet contacts against another, the chorus that ensues is the music of the universe.” All the "I"s living on numerous planets, all with their own orbits. Before approaching, before contact, we will never get to know the melody of the other "I"s. The same could be said of Junha's melody and mine. I picture on my mind, the zone that may turn into music by such contact.
