SYNOPSIS

The trial started after the tragedy of Yong-san. The charges of the six squatters arrested right after the disaster and the three hospitalized (Kim Seong-hwan, Cheon Ju-seok, Kim Chang-su) were special obstruction of justice and homicide. Since the prosecution refused to disclose three thousand pages of investigation records involving police commanders at that time, the defense counsils rejected the trial. Nevertheless, the trial was enforced. Fall 2009, the defendants hiered a new defense team (including lawyer Kim Hyeong-tae) in a week. Since then, the trial had been proceeded, 2 times a week, to keep the due date of imprisonment. Lawyer Kim Hyeong-tae, questioning the cause of the fire being Molotov cocktail as prosecutors insisted, presented new possibile factors including generators and electric grinders, creating positive vibes. For a week until the day of ruling, those three defendants accused without detention, sentenced seven years in prison by the prosecution, visited their hometown, prepared the final decision, and began talking about what they had on their mind.

DIRECTING INTENTION

"Social violence does not appear directly around us or in life as a form of violence. Rather, it comes as a supporting system of the preservation of order. ~ Being arrested on trial is necessarily an individual, and being punished is also that individual." - Mukkayi Kkooh, < Note on Violence >

On January 20th, 2009, an incident occurred, violence conflicting violence. One side of the violence was to speak out their complaints and the other was to force to silence. The latter, under the authority of governmental power, applied further violence to the individual members and even destroyed their homes. Through this film, I would like to show the process of violence being exerted by the government - redevelopment for pro-growth policies, governmental reliance on gang members in the process of the redevelopment projects, connivance of the police on these expedient actions and biased judgments of the court - throughout observating the 3 accused who got their houses demolished in the process.
