The night is very hot. Gang-Doo is having sex with Yoon-Ah, his girlfriend, but it doesn’t look like he is enjoying it. He tries to concentrate but the heat doesn’t allow him to keep going. He goes to the kitchen looking for refreshment, and when he rubs an ice cube over his skin he feels an intense arousal he's never felt before. He goes to the bathroom to avoid being discovered by his girlfriend, and there the ice cube rubbing against his body turns into an intense and beautiful experience full of pleasure, but ephemeral as the ice cube quickly melts away. After the ice cube melts, Gang-Doo goes back to his bed with Yoon-Ah, full of disappointment, guilt and confusion. She tells him she is worried that Gang-Doo doesn’t love her anymore but Gang-Doo tells her he is just irritated because of the heat. Gang-Doo and Yoon-Ah engage in their sex session again, but Gang-Doo still can’t feel arousal, and he can't get the thought of ice out of his mind until it overwhelms him.

As a foreign director, when I came to Korea I was impressed to see so many love stories, yet none of them would talk about sex. At the same time I wouldn’t see anybody expressing their sexuality openly and that made me think that it would be tough for those who have diverse sexual orientations. It occurred to me that many people would be caught in what is considered the standard heterosexual couple format, unable to explore other possibilities. So I decided to put sex on the screen so audiences could ask themselves if they are really satisfied with the traditional male-female relationships, or whether they feel like they need to try something else.
